Lafiore Vidrio Artístico was founded by the Tortella family in 1964 and, from its very beginnings, has run one of the few blown-glass workshops that keep this tradition alive in Mallorca. Lafiore is a craft shop that also offers guided tours, experiences and a Creative Coworking space.

Lafiore Creative & Select Store Mallorca is the boutique with a Mallorca Lifestyle philosophy that puts a wide range of decorative objects within reach of its customers to make their favourite spot at home feel special. It offers an abundant variety of products in original colours and shapes — unique pieces made by glass artists in a fusion of traditional blown glass with the most contemporary, avant-garde design. The shop’s offering also includes quality, contemporary-design objects made in Mallorca, such as textiles (teles de llengües), ceramics, gourmet products and everything that this magical island surrounded by the Mediterranean can inspire in the creators of these pieces.

Lafiore is a company with a strong commitment to sustainability and the circular economy. Its approach includes turning hotel bottles into glass objects, installing a photovoltaic plant that covers 90% of its energy needs in summer, and progressively eliminating plastic from its packaging. In addition, its pieces are wrapped in recycled newspaper, keeping alive a tradition that has endured since the company was founded.

Among the main objectives Lafiore wanted to achieve with this project, the following stand out:

  • creating attractive packaging to increase in-store sales.
  • strengthening its social and environmental commitment.
  • improving the brand’s positioning.

In the Projects III course, the students designed the secondary and tertiary packaging for Lafiore’s products, detailed below:

  • Primary packaging: local newspaper to protect its products.
  • Secondary packaging: one holding 4 non-stackable glasses and another for 6 units of the same product.
  • Promotional pack: containing 1 jug and 4 glasses.

To develop this project they used the Design Thinking methodology, a problem-solving method centred on people that combines empathy, creativity and rationality to develop innovative solutions. Its process is structured in five phases (empathise, define, ideate, prototype and test) and is applied to tackle complex challenges collaboratively.

In the exhibition you can see a small sample of their proposals.

We hope you enjoy it very much.
